Five Questions with Jessica Peacock

Her Spark asked Wake County Public School Math Teacher Jessica Peacock Five Questions. Here's what she had to say!

Q1: Who is your favorite female role model and why?

Right now, my favorite female role model is AOC - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She is a political fighter that challenges injustice head on. She is resilient and confident, and most importantly, she is thriving in space that has always excluded women of Color.

Q2: What are you reading right now? OR What's next on your reading list?

Right now, I am reading White Fragility x Robin DiAngelo as a part of an equity initiative at my school.

Q3: What's the best career or academic advice you ever received?

Where you are is where you are meant to be, do not doubt that the spaces you occupy are accidental.

Q4: Her Spark's mission is to equip girls with the STEM skills and opportunities to succeed in the careers of tomorrow - dedicated to solving gender disparity in computer science, engineering and technology careers. What does the Her Spark mission mean to you?

It means that there is not a wide threshold for women to access the STEM career field, but with a network of support and exposure to enhanced STEM experiences, those opportunities can be more widely accessible to girls across the globe!

Q5: What is your favorite part of Summer Summit? If you haven’t attended before, what are you looking forward to the most?

My favorite part of the summer summit is the opportunity for the girls to learn both STEM and soft skills. It is important that participants are well-rounded!
