Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 25, 2018.

Last Updated: January 21, 2020.

Her Spark, Inc. (“us”, “we” or “our”) operates the https://www.herspark.org/ website (the “Site”).  This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) describes how we collect, use and share the information we may collect or you may provide when you access or use the Site.  By choosing to use the Site, you agree to our Privacy Policy.  If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please discontinue using our Site.

What We Collect

We (or our service providers) collect two kinds of information about our online visitors: personal and non-personal.

Personal information can identify you as a Site visitor.  Personal information we may collect includes your name, email address, phone number and mailing address.

Our service providers collect certain personal information to process payments on our behalf, such as credit card or debit card, expiration date, CVC code and billing postal code.  When you provide payment information on our Site, like credit card numbers and expiration dates, the payment data is transmitted directly from you to the third-party payment processing company and it is not stored by us.

We may collect information from you when you submit a question or if you complete an online application form for one of our programs.  Our service providers may also collect information from you when you make a donation.

The personal information we may collect includes your first and last name and email address, and is collected only when you voluntarily provide it, such as when you click "Subscribe" and complete the form on our Site or email us.

We may collect additional information about you if you submit an online program application through the Site. The personal information we may collect via this process may include first name, last name, email address, phone number, age, social media links/names,  and first name, last name, email address and phone number of parents or guardians of applicants, and other information you voluntarily provide to us.

By initiating any activity or transaction that uses financial information on our Site, for example by making a donation or registering for a program, you consent to providing your financial information to our service providers processing the transaction to the extent required to provide the payment services to you.

When you interact with us through various social media, for example, by visiting our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn page, we may collect information including your email address, location and other biographical information.  The information we receive from your social network depends on your privacy settings.  You should always review, and, if you prefer, adjust your privacy settings on third-party websites and services before linking or connecting them to the Site.

We may also collect non-personal information including the name of the school the applicant attends as well as the school district, city and state, ethnic background (optional), rising grade level and expected high school graduation date, favorite class or school subject, information about extra-curricular activities, and other information you voluntarily provide to us.  We only collect this non-personal information because it is relevant for purposes associated with our Summer Summit and other programs and our research needs.

Non-personal information is also collected to track statistical information regarding the number and type of guests visiting the Site in order to guide our efforts to improve our Site.  The non-personal information we monitor includes the browser type and operating system used, areas of the site visited, date and time of access, host or service provider information, and identification of the referring site.  This information is used exclusively by us and our service providers for our internal purposes and is not otherwise disclosed to non-affiliated third parties.

How We Use Information Collected From You

We use information we collect about you or you provide to us for a variety of purposes, including to provide you with the Site and its contents, and to provide other information or services you request from us, fulfill any other purpose for which you provide such information, to communicate with you, including, without limitation, upcoming events, sponsorship opportunities, information about past events, discussions on STEM topics, volunteer opportunities, program offerings, and other event information, and to notify you of any changes to any of our programs (e.g., our Summer Summits or Ignite Events) we offer.  Non-personal information and demographic information we collect may be used for research purposes.

We may also provide your personal information to our service providers who provide services on our behalf.

Children

We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.  If we learn we have collected or received personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible.  If you are under the age of 13, please do not provide any personal information to us.  If you believe we might have any information from or about children under 13, please contact us at contactus@herspark.org.

Technologies Used to Automatically Collect Information

Technologies we use on the Site to collect traffic data, directly or through our service providers, may include cookies (data files placed on your computer or other device used to access the Site), analytics software (e.g., Google Analytics) and pixel tags (transparent graphic image, sometimes called a web beacon or tracking beacon, placed on a web page or in an email, which indicates that a page or email has been viewed).  A pixel tag may tell your browser to get content from another server.  We, or our service providers, may place cookies or similar files on your computer or other device used to access the Site for security purposes, to facilitate Site navigation, and to personalize your experience while using the Site.  Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information about you.  Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser settings to prevent that.  Users should consult their browser help files for instructions on how to refuse cookies.  If you disable or opt out of receiving cookies, some features or services on our Site may not work as intended, and you may not have access to all features we may offer.  Visitors may also receive cookies from third parties, but we cannot control the content of those cookies.

Disclosure of Your Information

We may use or disclose your information to protect the security and integrity of the Site, to correct technical problems and malfunctions on the Site, to technically process your information, to provide information to you about our programs, and/or to take precautions against liability.  We may also provide your information to our service providers who provide services on our behalf (such as our email marketing service provider).  We reserve the right to transfer any information we have about you in connection with a sale, merger, consolidation, change in control, transfer of assets, reorganization or liquidation of our business.  We reserve the right to disclose any personal information as needed if that information is requested by law enforcement agencies or if we are required to do so by law, treaty, regulation, subpoena, court order, or by a government entity.  We also may disclose your personal information to third parties if we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to conduct investigations of possible breaches of law, to cooperate in any legal investigation, or to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be violating any agreement with us, including our Terms of Use.

Opt-Out

If you need to correct, update or delete your personal information, please contact us by sending an email to contactus@herspark.org. If you receive any promotional email communication from us, you will be given the option to “unsubscribe” from receiving further email communications from us at any time.  Your option not to receive promotional and marketing material will not preclude us from corresponding with you, by email or otherwise, regarding your existing or past business relationships with us, and will not preclude us from accessing and viewing your personal information in the course of maintaining and improving the Site and our services.

Our Use of Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to help us gather details about the use of our Site by our visitors.  Google Analytics is a web based tool that helps website owners understand how visitors interact with their sites.  Google Analytics collects information anonymously.  It reports trends without identifying individual persons.  For more information please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy found here (https://privacy.google.com/).

Do Not Track Requests; Third-Party Tracking

Unless your browser settings are configured to make your online activities and publicly available information about your online activities (such as non-personal information described above) invisible to usage analytics tools, we do not presently have the capability to omit you from usage analytics to the extent your browser only sends us a “do not track” message and does not otherwise screen you from tracking without any action on our part.  To learn more about browser tracking signals and “do not track”, visit http://allaboutdnt.org.  Third parties, other than our service providers, do not have our permission to track which websites you visit prior to and/or after visiting our Site.  That said, we cannot control all third-party tracking, and there may be third-party tracking without our knowledge or consent.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites that are not controlled by us.  These links are made available to you as a convenience and you agree to use these links at your own risk.  Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy policies and practices or content of such third-party sites.  This Privacy Policy only applies to information we collect from you while you are using the Site.  If you navigate to a third-party website from the Site, we encourage you to review and become familiar with such third-party websites’ privacy policies and statements.
